Credits, teams, confidentiality and your documents. If your question is not here, contact us.

01

Credits

What is a credit?

Credits pay for the AI work SpecFlint does for you. Each action is priced from what the AI work actually cost, plus our margin.

Before an action starts, SpecFlint holds its estimate. When it ends, you are charged the real price and the rest goes back. If the work fails, you are not charged.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. A new team starts with 1,000 trial credits, about $10 of AI work. Trial credits do not expire. Each person gets one trial, so a second team you create does not get another.

To try SpecFlint without an account, Try It Free drafts the specification for one product at a time, about three a day.

What spends credits?
  • The guided build, with its estimate shown before it starts.
  • Reading documents: filling the profile from a brief, reading a brand standard, reading a plan set, and recommending room requirements.
  • Draft the Spec, for one item from photos or a product page.
  • Reading a product page you link, when it needs a paid fetch.
  • Messages to the assistant.
What is free?

Everything you do yourself: editing, confirming, answering the build's questions, merging and splitting items, schedules, approvals and issuing packages. The Magic Pen's alternates, missing items, groups, submittals and checks are free too.

What happens when we run low?

Owners see a warning when the team falls below 100 credits. If an action needs more than you have, SpecFlint says how many it needs and how many you have, and does not start. A build that runs out pauses and asks for more.

Who can add credits?

Team owners. Owners also see the team's credit history, line by line, on the Credits page. Members who run short are asked to talk to an owner. Guests never see credit numbers; their AI use is paid from your team's credits.

How do we get more credits?

Contact us and we will add them to your team.

Teams, projects and sharing

How does sign-in work?

An invitation link works for 14 days and must be accepted while signed in with the invited address.

What can owners and members do?

Owners can do everything: invite and remove people, change roles, manage credits and settings, see the team's Activity, and delete or move projects. They can edit every project.

Members see either all projects or only the ones they are given, as an Editor or a Viewer. Editors change the specification. Viewers read it. Only owners and members who edit all projects can create new ones.

Can we invite people from outside the studio?

Yes, as project guests. An owner or editor invites a guest from the project's People panel, to one project, as a Viewer or an Editor.

A guest sees only the projects they were invited to. They never see your library, vendors, members, settings, standards, other projects or Activity.

A guest editor can edit items, rooms and requirements, and upload files. A guest can never delete, issue, invite, start a build, add credits, read a product page or start a document reading.

How do approval roles work?

On each project, people can hold one or more roles: Designer, Reviewer, Approver, Client, Procurement and Observer. Roles decide who decides at each stage of an approval. They do not grant access; that comes from the team or the guest invitation. A guest can hold Client, Reviewer, Procurement or Observer.

The standard workflow is Design Review, then Client. An owner can decide for a role, and the record shows it was the owner.

Confidentiality

Who can see our work?

Your team, by the access each person has, and the guests you invite to a project. Your library, projects, files, standards and search data belong to your team and are never visible to another studio.

Assistant conversations are private to the person who started them.

What is a restricted product?

A product in your library can be restricted, for example one made for a single client. A restricted product is offered only inside the project it came from, and its files open only for owners and people who can see that project.

What is the shared catalogue?

Product pages SpecFlint collects from manufacturer and vendor websites, the same pages anyone can visit. Every studio can draw on it. Nothing from your studio goes into it.

Do you use our data to train AI?

No. Your data never trains AI models, ours or our AI providers'.

It is never shared with other studios. It improves only your own results, inside your team: search across your library and past projects, Magic Pen suggestions, and product matching.

Can SpecFlint staff see our projects?

SpecFlint staff see team names, members and credit use, to run the service. We look at project content only to fix a problem you report to us.

Which AI providers do you use?

Anthropic (Claude) reads your documents and photos, drafts values and runs the assistant. Google (Gemini) turns text and images into search data, so you can search your library and projects by meaning and by picture.

To read a product page you link, SpecFlint fetches it through web-fetching services that receive only the link.

Where are your servers?

In the United States. The app runs on Vercel in Cleveland, and the database, storage and processing run on Google Cloud in Iowa.

Is our data encrypted?

Yes. Data is encrypted in transit, and Google Cloud encrypts the database and stored files at rest.

Where is your privacy policy?

Read our Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service. SpecFlint is run by Flection LLC in Portland, Oregon. For privacy questions and requests, write to support@flection.io.

Uploaded documents

What can we upload?

PDF up to 100 MB, Word up to 20 MB, Excel and CSV up to 10 MB, and JPEG, PNG or WebP images up to 8 MB. A spec sheet PDF on an item can be up to 20 MB. A project holds up to 40 files and 24 mood images. Password-protected Word and Excel files are refused.

Where are our files stored?

In a private Google Cloud Storage bucket in the United States. Files go straight from your browser to storage, through a single-use link that lasts 10 minutes and cannot overwrite another file.

Who can open them?

Only people who can see the project, room, item or library product a file belongs to. SpecFlint checks every time a file is opened, then gives a link that lasts 15 minutes. Anyone else gets "not found". A guest can open package files only when the package is addressed to them.

What does SpecFlint do with them?

A PDF is split into page text and page images, and indexed so your team can search it. When you ask, SpecFlint reads a brief, brand standard or plan set and drafts profile fields, rules, rooms or requirements, each with the page it came from. Word and Excel files are read only when you ask for a reading. Nothing drafted from a file counts until a person accepts it.

What happens when we delete something?

It is gone. Delete a file, a project or your team, and SpecFlint removes the records, the text read from the files, the search data, and the stored files themselves.

Items in a specification are voided rather than deleted, so an issued revision stays intact. Credit records are kept for billing.

What about files uploaded to Try It Free?

Uploads to Try It Free expire after 30 days and are deleted, unless you sign in and keep the draft in a project.
